I have a box of assorted media and chemcals that I was trying to sell, and noticed this morning that there are two 150g boxes of Rena Phos-Zorb (details Rena Media) which it states can be used for saltwater aquariums. To save on the initial cost of rowaphos, does anyone see any reason not to use this instead? It states that one box will last 8 weeks in a 100 litre aquarium. If I get a bag of live rock rubble for the inlet chamber, and pop this on top, I have (with 2 boxes) at least 16 weeks phosphate removal!
As it states 8 weeks for 100 litres, could I buy a small filter bag and split the bag into two lots, replacing it each 8 weeks or so, or should I use the entire 150g each 8 weeks?
Thanks
Martin

If it says suitable for salt water i see no reason not too. So long as there are no trace metals or copper in there. I really doubt it will last 8 weeks though.

Thanks Ben
That's what I thought, but didn't know if rowaphos did anything more. According to the Rena site:
Phos-Zorb is a special filtration material that selectively removes phosphate and silicate, common nutrients found in fresh and saltwater aquariums. In saltwater aquariums, excess phosphate lowers the available calcium and magnesium necessary for the growth of hard corals and other invertebrates.
The box also states:
Prevents the proliferation of diatoma
Prevents the precipitation of calcium from saltwater
Favours the growth of hermatypic coral
OK, looks like I'll be giving this a go then, at least it save the expense of the rowaphos for a couple of months at least.
Cheers
Martin
