I am having a very difficult time getting my phosphate levels down to 0. I have film algae in the display and hair algea in my refugium. If anyone has any experiences erradicating the issue please let me know. I am at wits end here!!!

How often do you do water changes and do you use RO water?

What methods are you using at the moment to remove it?

A good skimmer and chemical filtration (somehting like phosban) along with regular water changes should do a fairly good job of knocking it down.

phosban reactor 150 are pretty cheap it looks likes im definetly considering one, may need to research into it though, could be an option for you....

I currently use a RO unit after using tap for over 2 years. In that two year period I had very low noticeable algea groth in the tank. I have been using the RO for about 2 months now. I perform twice monthly 10% water changes using Instant Ocean. I had used a in sump refugium, but that does not seem to want to pull the PO down any. I may have to use the phosphan to get things in check.

Yeah slightly larger/more regular water changes for awhile and some phosban should sort it out.

As a thought, it might be worth checking both your RO water then your salt mix water for Phosphate. This will ensure that your RO is working as it should and that your salt mix isn't introducing phosphate when you are water changing.

In tests many brands of salt contain small amounts of phosphate... probably not enough to worry about but again, just a thought.
