Have an eheim external below my tank. Its sitting in the cabinet on its own with about 20cm space above it. If i lift it by 20cm, so as to raise it to the top of the cabinet space, will it be more efficient as it doesnt have to pump the water an extra 20cm in an upwards direction. If so, will it be noticeable.

Just a thought i had....

The pump will have to work less hard to push the water back into the tank, but more hard ( sorry, is this bad grammar?) to get the water INTO the filter, as there will be no siphon effect.

Ehiem reccommend that it is below the waterline.

that point did cross my mind. Imagine a pipe that loops down from one side of the tank, down a meter, then back up into the other side of the tank. now put a pump on the bottom of the loop. pressure is equal either side of the pump, intake and outlet. This is true no matter how long the loop is. So i guess it just increases water pressure in the filter.....
