Ok. I have some questions. I tested the pH of my tap water like some suggested and the pH of my tap water is 7.6. Then I tested the pH of my filtered water I keep in the fridge, which is what I drink and it was about 6.0.

The pH for the fish I have in my tank needs to be about 7 to keep them all happy. What should I do to keep my pH at 7? And to continue to keep it at 7 after water changes? TIA

What fish do you have left in your tank? Are you planning to get more of those puffers? Most fish are not that picky about the exact pH value, as long as it's stable, like I said before, and not too extreme. The pH of my tap and tank water is 8.0, and I haven't tried to change it, my fish are mostly doing fine, and that's the same pH my LFS has, too. Do you know the carbonate hardness (KH) of your water?

Sinuhe is absolutely bang on. A fish that can live in 7.0 water will do fine in 7.6.

And about the fact that stability is more important then any number can be. Better a stable 7.6 then trying to lower it and having it bounce around all over the place while you try to get it right.

I have 2 sunset chunas, 2 albino corys and 1 fancy guppy (female) and 1 pleco in the tank. The puffer is the only fish that died. (and I'm starting to think there may have been something wrong with it before I bought it.) Yes I do plan to get another puffer in about 4-6 weeks or so. (When I get everything stable.) The chunas like pH to be about 6.8 but the guppy and corys like a little higher.. so I figured if I could keep it at 7 everyone will be happy. I am using acid buffer right now and its been staying at 7.2 with my adding a small amount of the buffer (after water changes)
