Looking for a decent PH Meter that would come in under £100. Sick of trying to figure out shades of green! Been looking around for whats available ad I get the jist that the accuracy needs to be as tight as possible, with this in mind I stumbled accross the Hanna HI-98127 Waterproof pH/Temp Meter that has the following pH 0.0 to 14.0 with a resolution of 0.1 pH and accuracy of ± 0.1 pH

Would this be a good buy or are there better units available? The Hanna quoted above is coming in at £57.99

i just bought one of the ones on ebay for about £25 and its pretty good you have to hold it in the water for about 30 sec to 1min though, otherwise you could get a ph monitor with a probe which is left permanently in the water so you can see the ph all the time . In the end i got a ph controller for my co2 which has a permanent reading which is great again off ebay for about £90

Which one was it? Do you have the details and how does it stack up against a chemical test kit? I just get bored with working through the shades of green that my API tests offers, kinda need it to be close as with C02 calculations.

We've got a Hanna HI99104 - not in the UK yet acording to their customer support :look:

great bit of kit and it was cheap too (new from ebay it was about £15)

I've got a TDS meter in the same range as the PH one above - fully waterproof and robust.

My PH is not waterproof (a bit ironic if you ask me)

Pinpoint pH by American Marine. is the one I use.
You will need calabration solutions, When you do don't buy their brand as they are quite expensive, There are plenty of labs out there on the net that sell these by the Ltr. with a reasonable shelf life.
The probe will need replacing every so often to remain accurate.

So whats the best way of going with this then? I'm sold on getting some form of PH test although the evil wicked wide web has started to show me such delights that are only a click away!
I've started to look at PH controllers such as THIS ONE
I take it that these also give an on the spot reading?

Looking at these mainly because I spend large amounts of time working away and my wife wouldn't spot the fish going crazy until it was too late, this with the fact that I'm running C02 could lead to a bit of bad fortune after a week away.

Good idea or just another thing to go wrong?

Also would I be able to still have my solenoid on a timer when running a controller?

Cheers

On the JBL system the solenoid plugs into the controller and then into the mains.

i have one exactly the same and i think its great!! it does give a constant ph reading. your solenoid is plugged into the controller and there is no reason why the controller could not be plugged to a timer but i cant see why you would want to. Just set your ph and leave simple as that

Went for the PinPoint monitor at £67.95 - arrived this morning after ordering on Wednesday and fully operational within a couple of minutes.

Was previously reading PH6.6 with liquid test kit now getting 6.85 with Pinpoint - gonna go with the Pinpoint reading for a while.
