Hello all:

I have a question about PH levels and fish in general. My tank has PH 8.0 and I have two beautiful Angelfish & they are very happy (Also, they lived thru the cycling fine without any issues at all). I know Angels like acidic water but they are doing great. They did not get any diseases and did better than my two Bleeding Heart Tetra's. (Thru Cycling the Tetra's got ich and the Angels did not)

I want to know if most fish do ok with any safe PH level range? After my tank has been running for a few months, I want to add a few German Blue Rams. They like slightly acidic water too. I don't want to mess with lowering my PH levels etc. Maybe the Rams will be well with my PH level.

If your fish are doing ok with your ph id say just leave it and also not to monkey around with it you might cause more problems mabe your angels have just adjusted to your ph level .

I think your rams will probably do fine.

Especially if you select rams that have been at your LFS for a few weeks -- chances are, the LFS uses the same tap water as you do, in which case placing them in the 'proper' water would actually shock them.

I agree that you shouldn't mess with the pH levels, as the yo-yo effect will cause harm to the fishies. A stable environment is important! My angels are also very happy in my water, which is hard with a pH of 7.9. Wild angels need soft acidic water, but most commercially bred angels are used to the harder alkaline water and thrive in it. I do know that tetras, and some other fish, can be more delicate and don't adapt as well to the harder water with higher pH. I cannot comment on the rams, as I've never kept them myself.
