I live in Montreal, Canada and I'm thinking of visiting Plattsburgh (only 1.5 hours away) in NY to save some $$. Petsmart.com has great price - I can save about 40% over the price I get at Big Al's.

This is assuming the Petsmart store sells the items at the same price as their dot com web cunter-part! Is this the case? Given their super-wide distribution, it seems strange for them to offer mail-order deals if their costs are identical...

Appreciate any feedback!

the store DOES NOT sell for the same as their website.
Perfect example petsmart.com website price for emperor 400 is 44.99 the store price is 79.99.

Also remember bigals will pricematch PLUS give you an extra 5% on any identical product from any other online merchant.

Petsmart will also price match on any product- ask your local petsmart why their web prices are different from their store prices... curious...

dont no if this will be of any help but over here prices are always cheaper on line rather than going into a shop
Eg: just bought a camera for £245.00 in the net but in the shop its over £300.00

They said it was because of their overhead. Also they would NOT even match the price on their own website. I actually put the stuff back and ordered it from Big Al's online....much better price even if I did have to pay for shipping.

The reason its cheaper to order online is because of over heads as one member pointed out already, Rent, Wages etc. The stuff you order online is probably sitting in a warehouse somewhere in their thousands and doesnt have to be made to look pretty for a shop.

Big Als has GREAT prices, but their shipping is painfully slow for some reason, and they do it signature required so you have to be home, but they don't give out tracking numbers unless you beg and plead and send multiple emails so you don't know WHEN to be home. If you have an office to go to I suppose sending it there works, but that doesn't help for me.

The problem for us Canadians is this. Just look at Alsonline.ca vs Alsonline.com. Even there, the US counterpart is about 40% cheaper even if you take into account the exchange rate! Why does a Canadian company (Big Al's) charge 40% more on items to Canadians? Company like Hagen even makes equipments in Canada!

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! Looks like I will have to continue use ThatFishPlace.com for ordering despite high shipping cost. Big Al's (.com) wouldn't ship to Candadian region.

Very frustrating! :S

Some petsmarts do match and some do not. I'd call ahead to find out if they do. As Silver said in this thread, she had to bring in a printout of the web page in order to get the price match.
Key words "Some petsmarts do match and some do not" I even took the printed page from the website and they wouldn't give me the same price. Unless it's an emergency and you need it right away, I'd stay away from Petsmart retail stores.
