Bought the last 4 of these from work today, wanted them for ages but have been not sure.

They are in my 50Gallon at the moment with loaches, glass catfish, syno. petricola & plecs. Seem to be ok and more active than i expected. Just hope they do ok in there for now.

I will probably move them into my 150Gallon when i have moved out, but i wanted to be able to observe them at night etc. so i decided that the 50G would do for now...

Any tips on them? feeding etc. someone told me to burry a cube of bloodworm.

Pics will follow soon!

Hi Ben,

I have 3 Elehant Noses in a 4 ft tank, I find they squabble amongst themselves alot, and they chase each other.

I feed mine bloodworms, I also provide them with shelter like a cave, as they are nocturnal and are mainly active during the night.

their is a few websites that give you loads of info on them- try searching on google.

One thing is that they will grow large in time.

I know they will grow big, but they will be fine in a 6x2x2 right? ;)

I have watched these last 4 in the shop for ages and they dont seem to fight at all. I was told that you can tell their sex by the anal fin, and i think mine are all female.

I will try bloodworm and mussel for them i think!

i thought that you couldnt keep more then one noses in a tank? because theie electrical fields all get in the way and they get stressed out and die or somthing...

yeah so did I, but i think i may be confusing these guys with some of the types of knifefish. I know knifefish shouldnt be together, not sure about the elephant noses though. I never really wanted to get one of these guys because i heard they only eat bloodworms.

When I bought mine, I made the fatal mistake of buying them on impulse! :*)

I actually asked the guy who was selling the fish, he told me all 3 would be fine together in the tank I have.

& as they were on special offer for all 3 I bought the remaining 3 :fun:

I feed mine bloodworms, have had all 3 for over 1 mth now, saw the black nifes in last weekend, would definatly like to get one, am selling one of my elephant noses to accomadate.

Another thing is that I read that elephant noses have a stronger electrical field than the nifes.

Bunjiwebb, your tank should be fine.
