I've just bought a Peppermint Pleco (L30). I know he's eating as there is lots of catfish poop under the bogwood he hangs on, but I'm not quite sure what he is eating. The internet just gives generic dietary information. If you have one can you tell me what you've seen it eat. Ta.

Its a spieces of bristlenose, therefore he eats algea, I suggest some algea wafers tho its alot heathier for him.
If hes on the bogwood all the time hes prob eating stuff off it.
hope this helps.

I hope you get to see your peppermint more often than mine :/ I hardly ever get to see him eat but a few weeks ago I did have to put him in Quaranteen and the foods that went missing (So I asume he ate) were Wafers, Tetra Prima cucumber and mellon.

Thanks Sam and Breezer, sounds like I'll be getting some algae wafers on the way home tonight.

Breezer, yes I am getting a bit worried as to whether I'll ever see him

Do you think your Peppermint eats any meaty food - live bloodworm, frozen shrimp etc.?

To be honest I have never seen him eat any bloodworm but the tank he is in does have some a couple of times a week so who knows :/

Hi there,
I have had mine for about 4 months and he/she seems to eat from algae wafers, blood worms, anything. They are ominvorious and should have no prob eating!
They are definately cool and different though.

Thanks Earthgirl, when I get a new fish, for the first few weeks, I really like to watch them eat and start to fill out, then I feel pretty happy that they are going to be OK. :D

It's a bit hard with Plecos though! Polo (yes I know, not very original) has only been seen once since I put him in 5 days ago. That was when I lifted a piece of bogwood to the surface, turned it over and he was stuck on it! :fun:
