hi all,at the moment i have got 4 peppered cories in with 4 common goldfish.i feed the goldfish peas a couple of times a week & the cories have a nibble if they get a chance.what i want to know is what veg if any shoud i be feeding the corys?i feed them catfish pellets twice a day & live food (daphnia & blodworm) twice a week,so should i be adding veg to there diet?thanks. :) x

hi
we have 2 peppered corys & i put blanched romaine lettuce in our tank & cucumber & zucchini,( courgette) all our other fish go mad for these but ive never actually seen our corys eat them but maybe theyre having a nibble at lights out time. worth a try anyway & if nothing else your goldies might enjoy these for a change

thanks for that millym.its just that everyone talks about feeding fish veggies etc and i wernt sure if i was suppose to feed the veggies aswel. :) x

Umm one question. You have coldwater and tropical fish in the same tank??? If so one of the typs of fish are going ot be very stressed at being in a hot temperature or the cories at being in a cold temperature

Peppered cories are actually sub tropical fish, so in between coldwater and tropical temps- for keeping them properly they should be in a sub tropical tank, but they are very hardy corys and can survive in either tropical or coldwate tanks as long as the temps aern't too extreme(i.e coldwater no colder than 18degrees, tropical no hotter than 25degrees).

hi goldfish bowl,my tank temp sits at around 22-24 degrees C and both the corys & gold fish are thriving.the goldies are growing big now & are moving to a pond once the weathers a bit wamer & the corys gave me a second spontanious spawn a few weeks ago so both lots of fish seem to be doing ok.alot of people are under the misconseption that peppered corys are tropical fish where as like tokis-phoenix said, they are actualy sub tropical.they get on great with my goldies and sometimes they all swim together like one great big shoal, exspecialy wen there after food, lol!!! :) x

I wouldn't worry about the veg. Cories haven't really got the mouths to chew off bits of veg- theirs are designed to hoover up small invertebrates- and IME they don't seem to like the taste much. Even when I feed mashed-up peas to my tank (which they should be physically able to ingest) the cories keep going round asking 'where's the food, where's the food?'.
