I bought 5 pepper corys all from the same place at the same time. They have been in quarantine with a few other fish for about 2 weeks now. Yesterday I lost one. just today I lost another. I am checking on them frequently. They all seem fine. Eating fine. Could the wrong type of food kill them. I sometimes feed them crushed cichlids pellets. They seem to love them.

I have 3 Julii corys in there too they seem fine. I looked at the body no sign of anything funky no ich, fungus, This one that died had a nipped tail.

Water Is all good. Its a bare bottom tank. I have been doing small 10% daily water changes so no poop is left to mess the water because the tank is a bit over stocked.

6 1"red eye tetras
now 3 Pepper corys Started with 5. All 1"
3 julii corys Also 1"

Temp is 76 F
PH 7.2
ammonia 0
nitrites 0
nitrates 10

That's what the water reads today and yesterday before water changes.

Could the red eyes be stressing them out? Yet they have places to hide. I never see the red eyes pick on them.
Or just a batch of sick fish.

I'm going to keep all fish in quarantine for a month before I move any to the 55 gal.

Why are they dropping like flys? Any ideas? I thought maybe lack of O2 so I lowered the water so the filter water splashes.

I'm getting worried.

Hi snowflake311 :)

This is why it's best to keep them in a quarantine tank for a few weeks. The "nipped" tail is probably a sign of finrot, which is a bacterial infection. Sometimes these things take a while to show up in new fish.

I have been keeping the water in tip top shape the tank is also spotless. I thought that would help. I would treat the tank bt I'm not sure what to treat it for. Do you think I will lose them all?

You know it might be bacterial infection. I was looking really close and the peppers look like they have red gills. So Im treating for that in hopes I can safe the others.
