I got a little peppered cory a few days ago, and if somebody walks into the room while he's playing with the others he'll dart away and hide. They handled him a bit roughly at the fish store, could he have been a bit traumatized? If so, is there any way to have him warm up a bit to people?

How many do you have? Also, the one in your pic looks like Trilineatus or something similar, do you have more than one species of C. in the tank?

I have two three-stripe, two albino, and two peppered.

Three-stripe = Corydoras Trilineatus. "Tri", as in "Three". "Lineatus" as in "Lines".

Not sure how you feel about constructive critisism, but here goes;

Its as i suspected. Can you take any of them back? And swap for more of one species? Corys are social fish, and like to have the company of their own. He's probably not coming out as much as he doesnt feel safe. Ive noticed in my tank, the Pygmys wont come out of their cave when the lights go on until the Panda's are out first, they seem to feel a bit more secure if the big boys" go out first. Once everyone is out, they'll all split up and go their seperate ways. They only group back up if someone goes near the tank or its knocked, but they dont hide, becuase they have enough in their numbers to be happy about being out front of the tank.

This might also sound odd, but the more places you have for them to hide, the more they'll be out. If they know there is somewhere close by they can dart into, they'll venture further away. I found when i just had one cave in the 80ltr they would hang around it. Now the tank is full planted out and there are lots of places to dig under, they're all over the place. The pygmys are sometimes even swimming about with the rasbora's up top. (The pandas have also been up quite high, as iv found eggs on the top of the filter recently.)

Hope this helps!

All my cories school together, even the peppered cory. He only hides if a person walks in, he's perfectly fine if you watch him from the hallway. Thanks for the critisism, but that's not the issue.

i have 14/15 laser cory's a mix of green and orange ones they school together happily but as soon as someone walk past the tank they all scatter to the back this is natural for them i presume but, if i stand there and watch long enough they will come out and search for food :)

Im sorry you took it badly, many do when they find out they have have probably taken bad advice elsewhere, but the fact is, the group you have, isnt natural, and not the best for them, hence my comments.

Stress depletes a fishes immune system, and leads to things like Ich, fungus, fin and tailrot, etc.

You asked for help, i gave it, its to help the fish thrive as they should, i get nothing if you dont want to think about it, or if you do.

My corydoras always scatter once I walk up to the tank, but as I sit there to feed them and watch they become comfortable again. I would assume it is a natural process because that is just normal behavior for fish, farm raised or wild. Hopefully the cory warms up more over time, from my experience they always do :) take care.

Mine also scatter if i go pass the tank quickly... :rolleyes:

My metae's - i have 9 in one tank on their own,i may spot one out every now & then, then only time i see them in the daytime is on cleaning day...unless i turned off the main room light and just have a dim back light on, then they all come out foraging,quite amusing to watch them in the dark :lol:
