After moving a group of 5 peppered cories out of quarantine and into my main tank, I noticed that they were paler than they had been before. The main tank has white sand as a substrate, while the quarantine tank has blue/green gravel, and I've noticed that my otocinclus is paler while he's over the sand than when he's on the rocks or wood. But I know that some types of fish become paler when they are stressed. So, I was wondering: which is the case with cories?

Also, one cory has a bent top fin, but seems to be acting normal. Should I be worried about it?

They are most likley stressed due to their move, but once they have settled in i'm sure they will regain their colour.

Unless there is any infection on the fin, I wouldn't worry about it. It probly happened either when first hatched or as a young fry.

While the move will surely stress your fish in the short-term, as someone who has been photographing Corys over different types and colors of substrate for many years, I have observed that most Corys will look different over white sand then they will over dark gravel. Your mileage may vary. - Frank
