This is my guppy Pepper and I recently bought her at a local petstore. She was supposed to be a male but when my boyfriend and I got home and he took a closer look, he said that she is pregnant. I want a second opinion about it and also if she is what would the best way for her to deliver the fry (what size tank, etc.) and do I have to buy specialized food for the fry? Also, I want to know when will she give birth if she is.

Im still fairly new at this breeding thing, but she does look like she could be. The things I have read to look for is shape, demeanor, gravid spot.

Shape: belly takes on a more square buldge shape
demeanor: stays near the ground and/or filter and corners.
gravid spot (not the best indicator though): darker spot near the back of the belly buldge.

As I can tell, the best thing for her would be a seperate tank(I think a 10 or a 5.5g would be ok) for her to breed (one that is heavily planted for the fry to hide from moma). Or a breeding trap to keep her away from the other fish aswell as give the fry a safe location. (they are usually double layered with a lower trap for the fry that mama cant get to. However, I have read in some places that a trap can stress out mama, and if used it is best to get her right before she starts, but try not to net her and places her, but to use the net to presuade her into the trap.

Again, I am fairly new at this, so I am only putting what I have read thus far.

That guppy is fairly heavy but not very squared off yet. She probably is carrying fry but is not close to dropping them.
