One of my penguin Tetras is going green where the black stripe is near tail, his whole colour seems to be fading and green appearing. Also he still plays but then goes off on his own and kinda jitters like fast jerking and gasping

I cant seem to find anything on the net explaining this so was hoping someone here might know, Im a bit concerned as if it is something serious I dont want it passing to any other fish, which are all ok.

what are your water parameters?

Is he flicking and/or rubbing against objects at all?

Swimming in a jerky movement and gasping can be a sign of flukes.
Need to look at your water quality first and tank set up.
How many gallons or litres is the tank.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.
Check the gills to see if there red and inflamed or pale with excess mucas on them.
Does the body of the fish look abit slimey.

Hi sorry.

Water:
Amonia 0ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate 20ppm

50 gallon tank

Other fish are:
2 mollies
3 penguin tetras
7 neon tetras
4 panda corys
1 blue ram
1 molly fry

No flicking or rubbing, no redness to gills, gills arent pale and no signs of slime.

Last water change lastnight as nitrates were slightly up at 30ppm, water change was 15%.

This is the only fish like this, doesnt look right at all. Only jittering jerking when still and isolates its self away, thought at times has a very short play about but retreats again.

Can you issolate him he's not right.
Has the fish gone thin or bloated up.
Is the fish still eating.

Arghhhh sorry pc went down and just got it going today

I did end up isolating him as I got worried. He is still eating fine, not skinny or bloated. I cant fatherm out whats wrong

Any signs of flicking and rubbing yet.
Hard to say to be honest, can be many things, sounds like flukes but there no flicking.

Hi, sorry forgot to update. The fish is still isolated, not treated for anything. 3 days after the fish was fine again, no rubbing or flicking ever accurred. The green colour did get real bad at one point but then it just changed back. I havent yet put the fish back as I dont know how long I should leave it isolated, does seem lonely :(

Dont know what was wrong but it sorted its self.

Just add him back to the tank, there no desease I've seen being green, fish do go green then go back to normal.

there no desease I've seen being green.
I've often seen this strange one in the trade.
I always treated with an anti-biotic, like melafix or acriflavin (in bad cases) and it has always cleared up.
conclusion is, it is some kind of ectobacterium.
