Ok so now that I have a basic understanding of what my stand is going to be made out of and how to build it, I have turnt my attention to the lighting.

I am going to use a T5 controller with 2 54w bulbs for the lighting itself.

I am looking to make a rectangular box design that holds the two bulbs. I was going to use wood also for this, and I was looking at using a bicycle hoist to raise/lower the lights.

Now I want the majority of the light in the tank and not in my bedroom, so will making the sides of the box higher reduce the spread of the light, along with having them quite low to the tank?

Also is there any heat/other issues I need to know about?

Cheers

Just 2 54W tubes in a good sized box will not require significant cooling added. A light strip that size can get all of its cooling by allowing the air around the tubes and the ballast to circulate freely. What I do is drill a couple of large holes behind the reflector so that air can escape easily and I mount the ballast on the back of the hood. With those simple precautions, I usually have a good response even when I lower the hood all the way down to the tank itself.
