This is a temporary set-up, with an old tank I am looking after community fish for a friend who is in hospital. Its set up in the garden and its quite interesting the way sunlight and the long days affect the plants and fish, all tropicals more used to 12 hours light and dark. There is no co2, some soil from the pond, gravel and sand is the substrate no artificial light and the tank is in semi-shade its been going since late May. I took these pics today, the pearling looked great and I wanted to share the pics. Thanks all for the great info on the site.

Beautiful :good: looks like a frosty christmas tree

Amazing!!!

Great picture.

Whats your secret?!! No CO2 and pearling like mad!! Very lucky

Thats pretty crazy and you achieved it without CO2, thats interesting.

What time of day was the photo taken?

If it was early morning, the heat of the water would be lower? And as the sun warmer it up the oxygen would be 'pushed' from the water.

It's happened to me when i've used water colder than my room temp. over a period of hours it looks like pearling.....

If that is not the case, then that is very good.

:good:

It is real, I took the photo at 2 in the afternoon. The sun hits that part of the tank between one and 3. otherwise its shady. The water temp is higher than the air temperature because its heated. I hadn’t done a water change, the leaves on the plant are tiny (thin) and the bubbles are tiny, Yeah Bloo it reminded me of a christmas tree too.
Here is another pic, the shoots lower down and further from the light which is coming in the side of the tank have much less bubbling. It pearls lots in the sun but there were many more than usual due to the strong sun. I guess for me it illustrates the importance of light. I have noticed that the plants are taking CO2 from the bicarbonates as there are deposits left on some of the plants, I am going to give it some diy CO2 and see what that does. There is a lot of algae on the bottom where the sand is and no plants when it pearls the algae and sand rise to the top and when the bubbles are released the sand gets showered all over the tank. I net the floating algae out.

anyway glad you liked the pic
