I did it I got my plants to pearl. I am pretty excited about . For some time I was not sure that it was real pearling but since then I have seen it happen everyday later in the day. On my penny wart i can see new bubbles replace the one that floated to the top. It's really neat.

Thanks it's pretty exciting the first time you see it happen in your tank.

what colour is your drop checker when you get to that stage?

A light yellow green I will take a photo of the color. This is DIY co2 and I have to change it every week to keep the co2 were I want it I will also add excel to the tank when it comes to the end of fermentation. The pearling happens near the end of the day for me lights on at 9:00am they start to pearl around 4:00pm.

wow, thats some pearling from DIY C02! You'll struggle to see pearling like that from pressurised C02 at high settings, or after a massive water change.

I'd get pearling all the time from my yeast stuff in my 8g, but it's me and I'm fabulous... LOLOL

Remember, Amano does call me everyday for advice. Starting to get calls from Tom Barr too. Sheesh, will it ever end?????

Congratulations, the first "pearl" is always fun. :good:

I've never had pearling from the top of leaves!

My fish go around and eat the co2 bubbles so most of mine is gone by the time I look in the tank

Very cool! Just started my new tank about 3 weeks ago and have noticed my plants have started pearling. My other half doesn't really understand how little bubbles can make a fully grown man so happy! Nice pics BTW.

Haha that's funny. But it is pretty cool.

I find that it depends on the plant the fast growing ones are what tend to be pearling like mad.

Pearling is where the rate of oxygen produced via photosynthesis is higher than the rate at which it can dissolve in the water surrounding that part of the plant, all plants are capable of doing it, but the faster growing varieties are more likely to pearl as they photosynthesize at a higher rate.

You can also get effects that look like pearling after doing a large waterchange. This happens a lot in my ADA setup where I don't dose CO2, but I do large waterchanges.

Just thought I'd add that in there.
