Hello, =)

I just got 2 Pearl Scale fishes and this is the first time that I'm taking care of fishes so I'm pretty nervous.

I can't seem to find out much about Pearl Scale fishes online except that when handling them, one should catch them using the hands cause they have very sensitive scales.

Mine are the fat and round kind. They are so adorable. They are only a few months old.

Okay, so far these are what I know.

(1) The sales person estimated that I should change the water once every 2 weeks.

(2) Feed them twice a day. Morning and Night. About 6 pellets each time. (I did as told but my fishes keep going up to the surface once awhile. Does that mean they are hungry? I gave them a little bit more and they finished it. After some time they go up to the surface again!! My friend noticed that sometimes they just eat abit of the pellets and then spit the rest out. Does this mean the food if horrible?)

(3) When cleaning tank and changing water, I should keep half of the old water (filtering out the dirt) because the fishes are used to it.

I don't have a oxygen pump yet because I couldn't bring an electric one home. I'm going to get it next weekend. So I got the oxygen balls instead.

I have decorated my tank with blue stones and a plant. I also got my anti chlorine solution and fish food.

My fishes are very shy. They always hide under the plant when I'm around and I feel so sad.

I also noticed that they like to stick around one another. Oh yes, while they were still at the shop. I noticed that they like to shake themselves left and right. But they don’t seem to do it now here.

Is there anything else I need to know.

Thank you.

Hi Bee and welcome. My sis' here seems to have covered everything but as I'm not a coldfish fan I can't think of anything else. Maybe one of the others can add some advice for you.
I will say that as these fish are notoriously messy you need to keep the water as clean as possible to prevent any ilnesses/problems. the cause of most sick fish comes down to water quality but don't panic if they ever do become ill, it doesn't necicerly(sp?) mean you've done anything wrong. fish just like scareing us sometimes. Anything else you need to know just ask.

Oh BTW a great big WELCOME to a place we like to call home. :p

There may be a few psychos (not to name any name GL) but we won't bite.

Hello,

Thanks for welcoming me to your website. :)

I would like to thank Rose for helping me find all those websites. They are all very helpful.

Unfortunately, my Pearl Scales died. :( . I think it's due to lack of oxygen. The oxygen balls isn't that good.

I got an oxygen pump today together with two male guppies.

I'm still upset over the lost of my first two fishes but I would still like to get another pair. Is it advisable to mix them with the guppies? I've read that they are both peaceful fishes.

I wouldn't because the guppies are a tropical fish where they need a heater to be kept healthy. The Pearl scales are a cold water fish and do NOT need a heater and prefure not to have a heater for optimum health. They aren't compatable...the pearl scales may try to eat the guppies as well. Rose

I come from a warm weather country. So I'm not worried about having a heater for my guppies.

Okay, I wouldn't want my guppies to be eaten up.

where are you from Bee? We have people from every where, the States, Scotland, England, Africa, Whales (I think), as well as other places. Rose

whales rose Whales!! lol!! its Wales :p

Ok, well I think your tank is cycling Bee, Guppies are not too hardy and I am sorry to say but I think they may die also!

Don't get any more Fish YET!!! Please!

How big is your fish tank? You need to wait for the bacteria which convert the fish crap (ammonia )to less harmful nitrates to build up in population in the tank.

I hve my fingers crossed for you! and Welcome to the site!

Rose!!!! Are you for it when our welsh members read that last post. lmao :S
