Hi all
good.gif

I have an issue with my Pearl Gourami as you can see from the picture , not the best of photos but im wondering what all the white spots are on him ? I have experienced white spot before in my tank ( 6 months ago ) & i know what it looks like ( pin head salt like spots ) but these look very different . Can it be ICH ? He has been acting normal , eating etc but this morning has flicked on a plant & more of this talc like spots have come out . All my other fish are fine . He has had it for over a week now & yes i have been naughty by not treating it until yesterday . I am currently using the King British WS3 & am just wondering whether to treat 2ml every day rather than every 48 hrs which is recommended as it seems pretty bad on him . If it's not ICH then what could it be & what treatment should i be using ?

I would really appreciate your fantastic advice on this forum as usual . Don't want to lose him as he is a good 3" & the daddy of my tank . I do a 50% water change every fortnight without fail & test weekly & all is spot on .

Could this possibly be Columnaris ?

There is a variation of Ich called import spot, where the spots are larger and its more resilliant to treatments. I have not actually seen it on a fish myself or treated it myself but have looked it up, ESHa exit does state in its instructions that it can kill off import spot. I have just treated a tank with esha exit and it works on the spots aswell as the free swimming stage. Personally from the picture and what I know of the description it could be import spot.

Thankyou for your reply . Strange how all my other fish seem fine . I thought WS3 was one of the better ich treatments ? I will read up on eSHa exit .

I guess its the way it goes sometimes, the tank I have just treated only 4 fish had ich, and all the same species?? * five banded barbs) then finally a cardinal got a couple of spots, all the other fish were fine. You can use esha 2000 in combination with esha exit also.

This is no Ich to me. Thinking of (starting if) Hole in The Head disease (Hexamita). Do you notice any holes??? If so Esha Hexamita or other brands will do the job. To my believe it often starts in the intestials (could be due to a poor diet). I can be wrong offcourse, but have seen this earlier (with Gouramis)
Cheers Aad

Do you think the King British WS3 would sort this out?
Double Dutch.. No holes whatsoever, just the white spots that seem to be spreading now. All other Fish & there is a lot seem perfect.

His diet consists of Tetra Pro flake, Tetra Prima, frozen bloodworm, frozen brine shrimp. He is very active & seems OK but these spots are getting worse.

Don't think that's the problem (though you could try to feed it some vegs as blanched lettuce (softened aso). Still think it's the start of Hexamita. Don't think Ichmeds will work sufficient on this. It really isn't Ich for sure. Spots are far to large for that. Please some thoughts of other members.
