Darn it I woke up this morning to find my female peacock gudgeon dead. I am assuming the male killed her as he was really pressuring her to spawn again. I actually thought about moving her out of the tank last night but thought with all the PVC pipes and wood she would be able to hide but I guess not.

So now I would like to get another female but I don't want this to happen again so should I get maybe 2-3 female instead? Maybe keep 2 pairs in the tank so the males will compete with eachother and not bug the females so much? Maybe keep some other fish in with them to divert the males attention onto them?

How long can the male live by himself without becoming stressed or depressed without a female?

Man I'm bummed :(

Ideally spawning should take place in a seperate spawning tank where the female gudgeon can be removed from the tank after spawning as males become very aggressive and will attempt to drive out all fish including other gudgeons from their territory. To prevent non spawning aggression gudgeons should be kept in small colonies with equal numbers of males and females.

Yikes, I thought you could keep a single pair together and they would be just fine! I guess I was wrong!

Thanks CFC for the infomation :)
