I bought some male and female peacock goby the other week, and yesterday i noticed the female has a large swollen stomach and it looks like theres something in there, also the male is suddenly chasing her to the same spot in the tank could she be carrying eggs or something or have i got this totally wrong? -_-

yes they have 2, but they keep going behind my filter!!! ive seen the male in the caves, but i dont get a chance to watch where they really go...ive only seen in near my filter..

Hi BOD ,

Mine like to breed in cut off pieces of my old fluval supply and return hose .

It's cut in roughly 2" pieces , the inside diameter is like 5/8 to 3/4 of an inch . pvc will work .

They like it small so flower pots , like the ones I have in my tank are ignored as far as breeding is concerned .

Eventually both fish will disappear for a while , the female will return leaving the male to guard the eggs [ about 4 days before they hatch ]and when they hatch he will most likely eat them .

Eat them haha...fish are so stupid sometimes!!!

 , last night took a tube full of eggs[ about 40 ] away from my big guy and put them in another tank , biggest problem is supplying them with food when they are newly hatched , they have hatched , they are very small , are in java moss now and I can't see a bloody one of them  , maybe in a couple of weeks I will .

Actually it isn't mine , the one on my avitar that is , there are pics of mine in the aquarium pics forum .

anyway:dunno: I think the flash does that , they're a pinkish/ orange/ red with blue flecks .

Looking at them in the tank , you wouldn't think they had any blue at all .

cool..i mite try taking a photo of mine see what they look like lol!
how are the little ones?

I didn't see anything after that last clutch . they're tiny at first .
2 pairs spawned within a day of each other so now I have eggs from 2 spawns in a separate tank from the parents , they should be hatching soon . I'll keep you posted . I put 1 female in a day before hand , I saw some planeria in the tank , she ate some of the larger ones , when the babies hatch hopefully they'll eat the smaller ones .
I tried last month , didn't see anything , I figured they all died , did a big water change and went out and bought new fish , put them in the tank and noticed 1/4" fry swimming with my new arrivals :dunno: poor little guys got eaten .

I also have a male badis badis guarding his fry in another tank , he won't eat his , at least not right away .

did they hatch yet?
I've only seen 1 swimmer so far , the tank has java moss in it , the rest may be hiding , or it could be all by itself .

I'll wait a few more days , if I don't see any others I'll net this guy out and put him with my badis fry , and try again .

The eggs need to stay with male as long as possible , he takes great care of them , if I take him out to soon the eggs[ most ] turn a whitish color and seem to die .
