Just seen some eels labelled Indian Spiny Eels in my LFS, assuming they are Macrognathus siamensis, look the same but please correct me if not. They look great and a very tempting price, still babies at the mo (approx 8cm max) what size tank would be best to start for a group and how long before I would have to upgrade? Suitable tank mates? or I might just keep in species tank.

Hope you can share any experiences,
thanks.

Probably Macrognathus aculeatus which is the more commonly seen "peacock" spiney eel. These are great fish that do best in a small group, they dont get huge so can be easily housed, a 30g aquarium would be the smallest I'd recomend. Any peaceful fish over 2" will make suitable tankmates, fish under 2 inches may be eaten.
