hi, i want a peacock eel as they are the smallest of the spiny eels (apparently) but ive heard they are the hardest to keep why so??

I certainly wouldnt class peacock spineys as anymore difficult to keep than any other spiney eel species, all spiney eels can be fussy eaters and often will only accept live bloodworms as food for the first few months. Peacock spiney eels remain smaller than the other commonly seen spiney eels and so IMO are easier to keep as they require much smaller tanks.

yea i just heard they are more difficult. Will it take time for the eel to come out and not be so shy or are they like this throughout their life??

They should become less shy once they have gotten used to their new surroundings, mine are always out and about at feeding time.

I have been thinking about getting something like this for my tank as well. I plan on switching out the substrate to sand here in the next few days.

So the peacock eel is the one that stays the smallest?

Thanks,
Tiff

My Spiny Eel is always out. I bought him at about 4 inches and was never shy and is not a problem with food. He will eat any frozen food you put in the tank

My spiny eel was always out and active, but they can be very weak fish when your filtration is switched off and surely die in a few hours. That's how mine perished.
