I recently inherited two pea puffers and I'm wondering what water type they prefer.

My google search turned up both brackish and freshwater for them and I would like to know which they are actually supposed to be kept in.

Also any other care tips are much appreciated.

pea puffers are freshwater. Also Im hoping their in at least a 10gallon heavily furnished with plants and places to explore, not to mention in a species only tank..as they will usually stop at nothing until they ARE the only species left lol

Their favourite food is shrimp. Be warned!

The Puffer is doing wonderfully in my tank! He is very cool and very friendly.

He is in a 10gallon planted tank, which he shares quite well with my 2 male Scarlet Badi and a few Crystal red shrimp. I haven't noticed any agression, but am keeping a eye out due to their reputation.

Since he is smaller than the shrimp, I'm not worried about them becoming lunch.

Watch out for the shrimp. My pea puffers killed two large snails. Probably 5 times the size of them! It probably will eventually attack the badi. How big is he? They are very aggressive little brats. Mine were in a tank with only 3 Pygmy cories. They love shrimp, snails, and maybe bloodworm. Mine went crazy for snails. The snails in the tank gave birth and, I know this sounds cruel, but I would smoosh the babies against the glass and the puffers would come to eat them. Remember to feed them crushed snails some time because their beaks grow and they could die when it gets too long. Ask more if needed! :good:
