Hi,

I've currently got 3 Peppered cory and 2 false julii cory. I was wondering if the majority would recomemnd sand over pea gravel?

I have some time next month where I could probably do a change over, but I'm concerned about things like my plants etc.

Would it be worth adding a couple of sandy areas to the tank, rather than completely changing it?

Thanks

Most people will suggest sand. It's more natural for the corys. I had my corys on gravel (smooth) for 12months or more and they were happy as Larry and I never had any troubles with them damaging their barbels. I have in the past week shifted my long/high finned peppers to a larger tank with sand and they so far haven't shown me a different in behaviour. My albinos however do prefer the sand, you can tell they have a ball sifting through the sand. Fingers crossed the peppers show a bit more active soon :good:

That gravel isnt so bad, its very smooth. However, corys like to snuffle around in the sand, sucking in particles and blowing it out of their gills in their hunt for food. I consider this natural behaviour for corys and like to provide them with sand myself. In the wild they live in both sandy and stoney bottomed waters, it is however, your choice at the end of the day. Nice little video by the way! very cute!
