I am getting payara fish or also known as Vampire Tetras, and i need some advice on how to take care of them and such. Food? Decors? Temp? How they like to live? Plants? Please help!
Ive kept payara and to be honest i dont recomend them as a aquarium fish, they just dont take well to captive life but here goes.
Food: FISH!!! if you are lucky you might be able to get them to take frozen food, if not be prepared to use a lot of live feeders
Decor/plants: Not much decor is needed, the fish are open water predators and have no use for caves and such. Planting tall plants around the edges of the tank helps to prevent them from smashing themselves against the glass.
Temperature: Standard tropical temperatures are fine, 22 to 28 celcius
How they like to live: They need a huge tank, nothing less than 120 gallons will do and bigger will be needed for adult fish, as the fish comes from the fast flowing middle reaches of the amazon a strong current provided from a powerhead or two is recomended.
I guess this changes my view on these fish... I guess i'll have to decide on some type of other fish that are as interesting. Thanks for your advice, i guess you know cuz you are one of few who actually had them. Thank you.
