So, this is my story…

When I started setting my tanks back up, a couple years ago, I was excited about putting fish back into my tanks, that had sat empty for 20-25 years… in my time out of the hobby, lots of things changed, including the closing of all the local fish suppliers… I visited a semi local pet shop… I bought a couple fish… that was a mistake, I rarely buy “fish” from them anymore, without quarantine…

But the on a whim, I bought 2 Flying Foxes… they were sold as algae eaters… ( I knew I didn’t want common Plecos again ) these fish are more than any, the reason I research fish before I buy, and try really hard to resist those impulse buys… they are not mass murderers, which could always be euthanized… but just were kinda cute when I bought them, but grew up to be just plain grey fish, that aren’t very interesting, and don’t really eat algae… there are so many more interesting fish, that are similar… and of course lots of the original pet store fish died, but the “Foxes” are thriving… they are currently in my Hillstream tank, and don’t seem to bother anyone, but don’t really belong in that tank either, as it developed…

I guess my message, is do your research, and try to resist impulse buying… I’m sure there are others out there with worse stories… but I’m sitting here watching a fish, that I certainly wish was something more interesting

Oh the times I’ve gotten fish that I didn’t really want but didn’t know until later . Happens to everybody , I imagine , but knowing what you really want helps avoid those blunders . Another thing that helps is having a circle of fish friends to trade with or a good relationship with a pet shop who will take them back . Aren’t you glad you didn’t buy a pair of Convicts ?

LOL… I had convicts 25 years s ago… they bred, and I had a lot of convicts…
