I have a small 10 gallon planted aquarium with about 14" worth of fish. Currently I do 20% water changes every 4 days which is about 2 gallons, but I was wondering if the water changes are too big or too often. Should I reduce it to 10% every 4 days or is 20% ok?

 I do a 25% water change in my tank once a week and my 46 gallon aquarium is overstocked too. I'm just waiting for my 29 gallon tank to finish cycling!

Nice name Fishsticks!!! Sorry i didnt know the name was taken before i registered. Just something i thought of with a different spelling. I guess we think alike!!!

As long as your fish are happy everything is wonderful. Keep with your routine it will be easier for you to stick with what you know than change and perhaps miss some water changes. I have never seen fish suffer from water changes done right. :)

Why I outta . .. Fishstixs I challenge you to a duo ;)

Yes I do treat the water and always check the water temp.

Wait a minute...
Do you guys consider every 4 days to be at least once a week?
Cuz that's what's recommended right? 20% once a week.

It all depends... I only do a 25% every 3 weeks in my 50 gal.

25% every 2 in the 15gal

and a small jug every few days in the breeding tank...

You'll know if your ok by checking your levels...

My parents 40gal tank is lucky if it gets a water change once every 2 months....

You should do a 30% water change once a month (reccommended by a fisheries biologist friend), or more often if you test and the ammonia, nitrites, or nitrates are spiked.
