Hi,

Thought i'd post up some pics of my parrots

And this is my newest little rescue bird! Magic is also a rescue and i got them from the same place. I got this one as company for Molly who had been chewing her feathers quite badly since we lost her companion African Grey last year. She seems to be doing a lot better with some company though

Yeah And he's finally getting his beautiful rose breast back!

You cant see in those pics, but he has got a plucked front. His belly was completely bald when i got him in September buts its almopst completely covered now It will never grow back completely, but he looks beautiful as he is

Magic is lovely!

We have a Galah 'too, too, her name is Rosie.

Love those conures too. I've always had a soft spot for conures and we have a white-eye conure called Egg.
Egg recently lost his Nanday companion so we're looking for another conure for him.

SirM Rosie is a beautiful girl too ! I so wish I could have a Cockatoo I've always wanted one but the time and attention these beautiful birds require are too demanding for me at the moment. Oh, and space is another "slight" problem

Rosie is stunning! I'd love Magic to look like that one day but i dont think it'll ever happen as he's done too much damage with years of plucking

Here's a pic of how he was and how he is though so he's come a long way

This was in September. I'd had him about 3 weeks and the feathers were just starting to grow back

And this was him about a couple of months ago. Not perfect as you can see, but much better

Ooh, and if you're looking for a new conure as a companion for egg, have you thought of adopting one? The rescue i got my two from (and also do some work for) have lots of conures which aren't always the easiest to find homes for as everyone wants macaws or cockatoos I love the conures personally! If you want any info about just PM me and i'll give you the details of who you need to ring/email and stuff

bloozoo2 - Parrots do need a LOT of attention! My lot are out and with me for about 10 hours a day. I take them to shops (only the ones they're allowed to go to obv), uni, when i walk the dogs and of course all my friends are used to be turning up with at least one bird! They can also be very noisy and destructive. Magics toys last about a week so im always having to buy and make new ones which costs a LOT!! But i wouldnt change them, they're great company

I love them POTM for the first picture. I hope this bird gets another one I just love birds.I cant keep them I have too many cats. I got one cocktiel I keep in my bedroom away from the cats. I sometimes dont think the cats know it is a bird because he talks.

So what's Magic's story? obviously he had an owner before you, but why had Magic been so stressed as to pluck himself so severely?

We thought about adopting a resure bird before, but have never been able to find a rescue centre that has parrots.

I certainly would be interested to know more about where Magic came from.

We dont really know exactly what Magic's story was. He was pretty much dumped at the rescue from what i can tell. All they do know for sure is that the guy who had him (who im assuming had him from a baby) was at university and had 12 large birds (cockatoos and macaws) in his room. Everytime a new bird came in Magic was moved to a smaller and smaller cage and ended up in a cat carrier The stress of this and lack of calcium made him pluck. The guy managed to sell his other birds but as Magic was in such a state, and has some other medical problems, he was unable to sell him so, thankfully, he signed him over to be adopted! Unfortunately the owner hasn't kept in touch. its a shame as Magic was obviously a much loved pet at one time as he is VERY tame and friendly. ou can do anything with him. he also talks which, as im sure you know, is a hard thing to teach some galahs!! Someone has obviously given him a lot of time and attention at some point.

The rescue i got Magic from is called Birdline and is based in Stafford though they pick birds up from all over the country. You have to be a member to adopt a bird (only £10 a year) and obviously, they have to do a home check and stuff, but they have so many birds that need homes if you're looking for one i'd certainly suggest checking them out!! That's so sad. poor Magic, but at least he's in a great and loving home now. Well done!

Rosie talks too, she says "Hello", "Goodbye", "Byebye", "Goodnight", "tickle-wickle-wickle" and "Give us a kiss"

...and of course "chup chup!" the standard Galah noise.

Yeah, its a shame that something like that could happen to such a lovely bird, but im pretty sure he likes his new home so it turned out good in the end!

Magic doesn't have a huge vocabulary, but he's learning more each day! So far he can say:

Hello Magic
Good Boy (He usually makes this 'hello magic, good boy' though! )
Step up
JESS!!
Shut Up ( learnt that from me saying it to Molly!lol)
No
Molly! (usually 'Molly!! SHUT UP!!!' lol!)
Give us a Kiss!
and he whistles a few little tunes and makes kissing noises!
