firstly, would 1 be happy on its own?
would 1 be ok in a 240 litre or would it need bigger?
is £25 a good price for ona approximately 8 inch?
i saw the 1st and only one i like, it was like an off white colour, with metallic blue tinge to the fins, looked nice!

cheers

I would say £25 is good for an 8", they can grow as large as 12"
It would need bigger imo, 75gals +
You may have seen the flowerhorn x parrot cross if it was metallic.

a picture of the fish would be lovely!
Judging by its size i'd probably say its a King kong.
Although i personally have never had a bog standard BP to grow 8 inches.
£25 isnt a bad price if it is a kong, so find out :)
As for sank size, it depends on tank mates. As kongs can be generally very aggressive from experience.
240 litres would be fine for one, but again it depends what else is in there.

definately wasnt a flowerhorn cross, wasn't very noticable blue, more like white body, with very slight pink tinge to it and like metallic sky blue to the fins, very nice colour.
i think they are ugly and dont really agree with hybrids but that colour would just stand out so much, i know they can be agressive though, and although my tank only has aggressive fish in really, so that wouldn't be a problem but from whats been said my tank may be a little small, might look into them when i get the bigger tank. by then the nice one will be gone and there will be none i like lol!

the colour could of been whats left of the past "dying" of the fish. Apparently fish like this arnt really ment to exist anymore as the dying of these animals is considersd cruel. Although occasionally the get mixed in with the shipment. One of our Blood Parrot Shipments came through with a few dyed ones hidden amongst them. Most end up fading and reverting to close to their original colour. Although the dying process does shorten their life considerably

I beg to differ, I recently had one die and it was 9 1/2"

Plenty of other fish with even better colour, which aren't hybrids!

Thats very irregular, but its still a lovely size for one of these blighters.
I think im yet to see a Bog Standard Bp grow larger than 7inches in the flesh,
so a picture would be lovely :good:

Sounds like the fish you saw was a short body pink convict. These are often called jellybean parrots and although people usually conclude they must be part parrot (really just due to the shape)but they are full convicts just with the short body/balloon gene.

Male (this was my own fish)

This was his son (from breeding with a regular striped female).

Also if you still want to look into them I recommend you go to bloodparrotcichlidclub, at least 75 gals is recommended for them.
55gals may be ok for one, although not one which is large, but I don't believe Dave wants to have it by itself.

It was this one

This one was 8 1/2

Nice fish ~T~, but I don't think it would be a short bodied convict at 8".

definately your 'normal' shaped parrot cichlid, but as for coloration, like your convict with the metalic orange to the fins, similar overall color to that but metalic sky blue where the convict is orange, might buy it if it is still there in a week or so as i plan on etting a much larger tank relatively soon anyway, i will then take pics for people to give me info!!
and it is just the 1 i would keep, its only the 1 i like lol!
cheers
