Hi
I know what some people think of Parrot Fish, but i have a problem with my 2, i have had them since June, they where doing okay till a few months later, they started chasing and attacking my other fish, so i moved them to my tank upstairs, they've been in there since September, the thing is when i come into the room, they just hide, they never ever come out, only to eat, they look really scared. I told my lfs the problem and they said i can take them back, to the shop.
Do you think this is a good idea, or will it cause them more stress and upset. Please can someone give me some advice on what you recommend i do. Thanks

Fantazia,
Even though some of us don't agree with the production of fish like the parrot, believe me we will still give advice on these and any fish.

Now on to your question....

The parrot is a manmade specimen that is a cross between a red devil and a gold severum.....CICHLIDS!!! and somewhat aggressive ones at that.

Chasing and attacking other fish is their birth right so to say.

What size tank are they currnetly in? Is the tank big enough to house any more fish? If so you may want to add something, even if it is a small pleco.

This may bring them out of there shyness. Believe it or not...some fishkeepers (myself included) purposely remove fish to a seperate tank when they get overly aggressive for this very purpose.

We call it "time out" It has a tendancy to settle the aggressive fish down.

With this said, you may want to try and re-introduce the two parrots to their original tank and see what happens.

You may be suprised to find that your little "time out" method has had a calming effect. If not then you can always try the first suggestion.

NOTE*** I should also have said...if these parrots came from your ick infested tank, and they are not showing signs of ick...DO NOT place back in your main tank until you have completed the treatment!!!!!

HTH

i found that the parrot does have a tendency to like the severums as tank mates. they get along wonderfully. might want to try some of them for tankmates to bring them out.
