Hi,

Some questions:

What is the size of your tank?
Did you cycle the tank?
How did you acclimatize the fish?
What are your water parameters

My tank is a 60l but he is only in there with 1 tetra because i dont want to over crowd,
I cleaned out the filter and added some ph balance liquid advised by the man at my aquarium
I floated his bag for half an hour gradually adding some of my own water into his bag
and i am unsure of my water parameters at the moment but will test tomorrow

Hi Meghan, welcome to the forum :)

Sorry, I'm going to ask you yet more questions! How long has your tank been set up and how did you clean your filter?

If you're ever worried about a fish, do a big water change with warmed, dechlorinated water. As long as you leave enough water for the fish to stay covered, you can change as much as you like; I'm convinced that 90% of problems with fish are down to water quality.

Best of luck and please don't hesitate to ask anything else.

Hi my tank has been established and healthy for 3 years and i had a tank previously as well.
I changed the filter pad but left one of the older ones in because the guy at the aquarium said to do this for the bacteria balance or something. So I should try a water change then?

Thanks :)

Yes, definitely do a water change. When you changed the filter pad, you lost half of your good bacteria; the ammonia and nitrite will build up in the water until the remaining bacteria have multiplied again. This should only take a few days, but until then test for ammonia if you can and do a w/c if it tests positive.

If you can't get the water tested, do 50% a day for a week or so :)

Also, you will need to rehome the parrot in the future as the tank is too small.
But at the moment, I agree with the water changes.

Oh, yes, I forgot to mention that myself

Jonathan (fish) seems fine now i did a 90% water change and he seems ok. . . thanks for your help :) I am moving him into a bigger tank once it is ready as I'm in the process of setting it up so he wont be in my smaller one too long. . .it is soon to be a nursery for some molly fry cant have him in there with them!

Thanks again :)
Meghan
