Parrot Fish In A Tank With Oscars, Dempseys, And A Convict?

I could be purchasing a 55 gallon tank/stand/filters/heater/gravel/decor from a man who's giving it to me for a very cheap price and including all of his fish because he simply doesn't want it anymore, and I need to give him an answer on whether or not I'm going to be purchasing the tank and taking a fish (i'm afraid of their fate if I don't take them).

He has 2 Oscars, one albino, one black, and they are both 9-10 inches long. He also has 3 Jack Dempsey's rangin from 4-6 inches. And last but not least, a 3-4 inch convict.

Would they go with my 5 inch long parrot fish that I already have? Or would they kill her?

I didn't know If they would work together in a 55 gallon aquarium if i provided lots of coverage and hiding places for them...

No, you'll be super overstocked!, also a lot of fish with terrotorial issues there

Yeah, I thought of the overstocking

Just the oscars is already two huge fish, let alone THREE JD's also.
If I decided to take anything, It'd probably just be the albino oscar, one JD, and the convict.


But as good as a deal it is, I think I may pass it up and keep looking for my 75 gallon tank, and keep my parrot fish out of harms way.

COmpletely agree with Matt, a 55G is too small even for one large oscar. Can't believe how overstocked that tank is.

out of curiosity, what tank size would you recommend for a JD? i have got a 240L and my LFS has just started selling JD (EBJD i think...)
I know my tank is pretty well stocked at the mo, so i wouldn't get one without a serious think and a re-shuffle, but would 240L be too small to start with?

Yeah, I think the man had the 2 oscars by themselves for a long time so they grew tremendously and then added the JD's and convict.
I though it was a bit much too, but maybe that's why he no longer wants it. Overstocked tank=more cleaning and maintainence.

I would go with at least a 40-55 gallon for just one dempsey. Larger for more of them. The smaller the tank, the more aggressive a fish like a dempsey will be. I would safely say that you could stock 2 in your 240L and be good. If my math is right, 240L is around 64 gallons?

Maybe i could have 1 JD and keep my 2 sevs?
