Anyone keep or kept these catfish before? I saw some in the LFS and they look very interesting. Im looking for stuff like how sensitive they are, etc. I know they like to be in groups..

Thanks in advance :good:

many places still refer to them as Eutropius debauwi
so perhaps that will enhance your search.

The Eutropius debauwi is actually another type of fish. The one Im looking for is often confused with the that one, but it has three stripes instead of one. I guess I could search for Eutropius buffei and see what happens.

Im mainly looking for peoples experience on them. You can read all kinds of stuff about them, but first hand experience is always good too.

according to fishbase they are one and the same fish

Planet Catfish agrees that Eutropiellus buffei is a synonym for Pareutropius buffei.

They are one and the same, just someone has decided that the fish should sit in a different genus.

Well after searching planetcatfish, I found these:

http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/speci...?species_id=327

http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/speci...?species_id=603

If you look at those, Eutropius debauwi is listed under Pareutropius debauwi, which is a different fish from Pareutropius buffei.

Confusing

EDIT: I might have also caused some confusion when I put ''debauwi Cats'' in the subject line. The fish Im talking about are Pareutropius buffei, which are not ''debauwi Cats''

They feature in a couple of the Baensch aquarium atlas one of which gives quite a detailed description, including how to tell the two apart.
Off the top of my head as I don't have my books at hand, I remember they prefer to be in groups of six or more & need a certain amount of top cover other wise they become shy & withdrawn.
