Hi

I have just noticed that attached to one of my clowns is a small (2-3mm) 'thing'. It is positioned at the top of the body, where the rear of the dorsal fin starts. It has a small black dot on the end that is attached then like a white cylinder shaped 'body' and a small white 'tail'. I have done a google image search for marine fish parasites and cant see anything similar, although the description of some parasitic copepods sounds similar. And a book I have describes "Dactylogyrid" parasites which also sound similar.

Any ideas? And should I net the fish and the 'thing' off? Any good sites with parasite images?

Thanks

Jon

Well, it seems to have gone, glad I didn't have to net it and remove it. I would still like to know what it was though.

sounds like it could of been a pod hitching a lift, ive heard of small pods floating in the water then attache to fish, they then run around on the fish which tigles them which the fish dont like

From descriptions I found while looking this up, it did sound that way (a pod hitching a lift), though the fish did not seem bothered in anyway. Just glad its gone.
