Hey all,

Three questions:

1. Is it normal for Angelfish to nip at everything in your tank, because mine nip my filters, my heaters and even my thermo.

2. In an Angelfish breeding tank, is it ok to only have a biological filter, using a vacuum for mechanical and water changes?

3. Can Apple Snails be kept in an Angel breeding tank?

1. angels investigate and bite everything, mine do it all the time.
2. when i bred angels years ago i used biological filtration and it was successful for me.
3. i wouldnt put the snails in as they would eat the eggs, i think.

Angel's will nip, nibble, and pretty much get nosy about anything in the tank. This includes my Wife's hand & arm when she tries to net fish out of a tank with 100 or so nickle size angels. She jumps & shreiks, I laugh, she scowls. It's great fun!

Bio filtration alone is fine for breeding tanks. Angels prefer a tank with low current due to their body shape. Sponge filters are all I use for younger fry. As they get older they go into a tank with sponges & an A.C. mini, just so they get used to some current.

I wouldn't try the snails in there. My breeding tanks have a few corys & a smallish bristlenose to help clean up. The parents have no problem keeping them away from the spawn, if need be. A snail's hard shell may protect them too much, the same with the scales on a larger plec.
