I'm not going to bother going into all the little details, water is normal, etc. I found one of my male mollies sitting between the heater and the side of the tank earlier today. I moved the heater and he just sort of floated to the bottom. His body was curved to one side. Hours later, his body is still curved and he seems to frantically try to move using only his front fins, but doesn't seem to have any use of his tail. I found him a few minutes ago, upside down in the tank, unable to turn himself over (I helped him, but he's still not using his tail).

What could possibly be wrong? Could he be paralyzed? This molly has been sickly ever since I got him over a year and a half ago, I've always been able to nurse him back to health. Could this be it?

(Just a side note, he also has no use of his eyes and hasn't since I got him... looks as though his skin has grown right over them. My poor baby!)

My molly's tail got stuck in the filter once and when I pulled her out her whole body was bent and most of her tail was gone. I thought she was going to die by the way she was swimming/acting but she pulled through and grew her tail back in less than a week (without any meds!) she also had babies a few weeks later. Bless her little heart, I love her.

Sad to hear yours died. Was there a chance she/he could have gotten sucked into the filter? My glass catfish is sick and I hope I don't lose him either. :-(

I don't think he got stuck in the filter. And there were no visible signs of injury (aside from his body being bent the way it was). For the life of me, I just can't figure out what happened. I'm stumped.

Hmm sounds weird. I don't know what could have happened. My molly's tail was ripped to shreds and I had to pull her out of the filter so that is how I knew she got stuck there. Well RIP for your poor molly. :byebye:

Sorry for your loss, nothing you could of done for a bent spine, at least he had one and half years that good for a molly.R.I.P.

Is that as long as a molly lives, 1 year? I was told that 5 years is typical

Don't no never kept them, I thought 3 years max but not sure, at least he had a quite long life should be proud of that, compared to two months which some get with new fishkeepers.

Sorry, it wasn't a critisim, i just was concerned as i have molly's . I got them because i thought they lived long lives.

Hope you get another molly as they have tons of character :hyper:

LOL :D yeah a bit of both really, my 5 mollys all are different, theres the dominate male who constanly swims around showing off his rather large fin to all the other fish. The black feamale just eats everything (including the food ment for my shrimps). The chocolate molly just sleeps all the time, the other male molly follows the dom male trying to befriend him! Then there is my baby molly who eats everying (just like here mum!)

My dalmation molly eats everything too! She even tried to nibble on the 2 fake plants I have in her tank. She used to munch on the algae disks for the pleco. Now we re-homed the pleco because he got huge! I still drop an algae disk in there for her once every few days (a half of one anyway) she nibbles on it them swims away. I'll usually scoop it out after she has nibbled on it for awhile. She even munches on the heater, and filter. :hyper:
