I've read in books that paprika can be used to bring out the color in fish. Does anyone know how I could feed it to my fish?

That would sound like using food to dye the fish to me. Paprika is used as a food colouring as well as a spice as far as I am aware.

I would not be feeding spices to my fish without there being a true benefit for them in it.

But can it hurt them? I'm not talking about large doses. Just enough to bring out their color. But if you insist on it being harmful, I see your point. I'm still curious though.

why not find a food with a color enhancer in it.

I always make sure that any new fish is Fed Hikari Happy Chappy. IME I have found this food helps to climatize them and brings out there color quicker.

It is what I Have fed Acide all day to build him up. And now he is a divine Candy Floss Color.

Paprika? I can't say if it is true or not but I wouldn't even think about.

The best color in fish is got when the fish are most unstressed and well bred in the first place. Healthy fish are colorful fish.

I'm not saying it would be harmful, just thought I'd mention it. I agree with psgill, there are foods with 'enhancers'. However, I also agree with tca (more actually). The best way to good looking fish, is for them to be happy and maybe if they have someone to flirt with ;)

I already have food that enhances the color. I just wanted information as reference in case a question like this ever popped up. :D

well i say if ur fish are happy then their colours will be better than that if u use colour inhanceing food. and + they feel better and so do u.

i mean come on i'd be happy to know that my fish were happy because of something i did

paprika?
kick it up a notch - BAM!
didn't know you were the culinary type, tempestuousfury :fun:

that's a decently hot spice. IMO I don't want it in my tank. could irritate eyes, fins, slime if a decent amount gets into the water

Paprika will not harm them and it's not artificial colour either. If they eat it direct, give them small pieces of it - just tiny ones. If not, then it'll be difficult. My fishes don't like paprika ;)

I think we are now talking about that normal paprika that you put on your bread, not that "pepper" like paprika...
