Fish Crazy
i am going to do it sometime next year when i move. this design includes a small stream and was origionally designed for hillstream loaches and other fast water species. I can try and scan the plans for you. the plans also include live moss on the floor of it too which would look nice with a stream running around it
i call it my rainforest setup. You will need:
(simple setup)
1x 25+ gal tank
1x small heater
1x water pump
1x air pump and undergravel filter (a small sponge filter is prefered for this.)
a few large rocks (heat rocks for frogs)
a small length of aquatic safe plastic (for stream)
gravel (lots)
1 seperate sheet of glass and somthing to hold it in place so is to hold the gravel in place.
(if you can find a way of securing the glass in place without permanently changing the fish tank lte me know)
you wont have to copy my plans exactly when i post them, its a very flexible design
note: the resevior of water will only be around 5 - 10 gallons depending on how generous you are ground wise to the frogs but i assume if you made the ground part 1-3 of the fish tank you should get the water up to around 8 - 10 gallons in a 25 gallon tank for one or two frogs. by my calculations you would need a 50 gallon tank to store a sufficient ammount of fish and still have enough room for a large number of frogs.
to make the stream twist and turn you may need to overlap the strips of plastic and if algae grows in the stream this is a plus because it will look great. To hold the plastic down, simply place rocks along the side of the stream which will anchor it down. the pump size and stream width is your decision just remember: to correctly divert a straight running river / stream, the wall that moves it must be as tall as twice the width of the river / stream to avoid spillage / overflow.
all that is left now is to get all those items and any extras like moss, stocking fish , plants and logs.
i will post my sketches and drawings of it ASAP
