I looked at the pictures in the pinned topic of tail types, but am still unsure as to wether my females are crown tails or plakats. The rays in the anal fin branch once, but they don't stick out from the end very far. You can see that they stick out of the end, but not as far as the pic of the female crowntail. Their cadual ( I think, it's the bottom one) tapers down to a point at the end. Could they just be young crowntails who have not developed completly?

This is a female plakat, the tail seems to be rounded off:

Heres a pic of at female ct, the rays in the tail are more prominenet and extend past the rounded edge of the tail:

is it possible that your female is a ct plakat? ( there is such a thing u know ) :D

Sounds like a combtail to me - check the article again. I don't have a photo of a female comb yet, but that's most likely what your females are. The rays do stick out beyond the membrane, but not significantly. HTH!

i couldn't find any pics, of combtails females but it a possibility, my spade tail has large rays that extend a bit but not as far as a crown's so i know what ur talking about. are u planing to breed her? did u buy her from a breeder? u could ask the breeder -_-

i got mine at walmart as well, they arnt half bad. and breeding doesn't recuire to much space, im spawning my pair next month and im doing it outa my room.
( didn't u say something about ur wife killing u if u got anymore bettas? :D )

If you got them at Wal-Mart I would guess they are veiltails, possibly combs. That's a disadvantage to breeding fish that you didn't purchase from a breeder, you have no idea what the genes are, and with Wal-Mart fish you most likely have mutts. Nothing against them, btw, I have many heinz 57 bettas, they just aren't the ones that you want to breed. ;)

  Yea, when I told her I got 6 more (5 females and a male) she wasn't too happy with me, but she is in the navy and left about 2 weeks ago for a 6 month deployment so she should hopefully be over it by the time she gets home.
Sorrel, I'm not planning on breeding these. When I do finally get the space and time (time? what's that?) for breeding it'll be with pairs from a repritubal breeder.
Vieltails don't have a split in their rays like these do, do they? They are probably a mix of something or other.....
