Somewhere over the rainbow...
I've had a bad case of paleness on my betta for a while. Whenever I wake up in the morning, I find that the water is cold, and my betta is pale. So I take some of the the cold water out with a cup, and replace it with warm water. Then, my betta regains his color again. At night, it would sometimes happen again. Sometimes he's so pale, you can see his innards. But strangely, sometimes, when I wake up, I do not find him pale, but perfectly fine. I felt the water, and it was still just as cold as all the other times. He even made a really big bubblenest. Why is it that when the water is cold, my betta only sometimes turns pale? When I woke up this morning, the water was not warm at all, but cold, and he was still doing great, with all his color. But i'm sure that at night, i'll find him pale again, and i'll have to change the water. I worry that if I am gone for a few days, he will be pale for days, and might get sick. I don't think cold water is entirely the reason for his constant and persistant paleness. Any other things that can cause paleness to a betta other than cold water? Thank you, and have a nice cracker.

Constantly fluctuating water temperatures are not good for your betta and will harm his immune system, making him prone to all kinds of infections. Please get your betta a little heater for his tank.

A bowl? Kewl! Ancient Peeps Style! Wooohooooo!!! I keep my guys' bowls on top of the entertainment center. The heat from the TV warms up the platform below them. B)

Lots of people keep bettas in bowls and they do do heaters for them, just not very often.

don't know where you are or what stores you have in your area, but i do know that walmart carries these really small heaters meant for small tanks/bowls, theyre about 4 inches long, and about $6 us dollars. just a thought.

Those heaters are good for 2-5 gallon tanks/bowls. If the bowl is smaller than that try using a desk lamp or something with a low wattage bulb. I was heating my 1 gallon tank with the light before I replaced that tank, it worked well too.
