Hi, I recently purchased a young male convict 4cm and added him to my 80gal aquarium with my Larger female 8cm. I wondering if the 2 will pair up because at the moment the are both at opposite ends of the tank hiding in caves, and if they do come out and see each other the female attacks/Chases the young male.
Any info will be helpful. Thanks :)

The female be too established in the tank, and since she is bigger she may take him as an intruder and not a possible mate.

I say give it time though, and see what happens.

Did you rearrange the tank when you added the male?

I've noticed this trick only works for so long. After the dominant fish re-establishes his self, he will then resume his normal behavior.

True, but might it displace the aggression long enough for them to pair up, or at least an attempt.
