This weekend I'm going to paint the back of my tank black and was wondering which type of paint is best to use? Also, would I need to try to cover the tank in some way to stop fumes getting into the water?

Thanks for any advice.

I paint the backs, and depending on the situation, sides with regualr blackboard paint. It usually requires 2-3 coats to get it finished to high opacity, but it is very cheap.

IMHO
eggshell or gloss is the best.
whatever you do don't use emulsion as it washes off when it gets wet.

i use platicoat spray paint just mask off the rest of the tank with newspaper good to go :good:

Thanks for the advice, guys.

I just bought some blackboard paint and am about to start cleaning the back to be painted. I hope it goes smoothly. My painting skills are not so good, to put it lightly. Wish me luck!

I have been doing mine today, imo spray paint sucks (in a breezy garden)

Had to scrape all the damn spray paint off and use black gloss

Wonder how many coats of "one coat gloss" i will need

"one coat gloss"
You know, I fall for that every time. I KNOW it won't cover in one coat, but nevertheless, I buy the stuff and am still disappointed by the result.

"cheapest" is my answer ! if theres any doubt with the silicon seals on the tank, then just mask them with a little tape.
Do one coat in one direction, then one at 90 degrees, looks awful when you are paint side, but glass side will be good.
