I've seen a few tanks with a black painted background and I was wondering maybe I should do this on my tank? If so...what kind of paint do I use and how do I do it? x

If you go to any good DIY / hardware store you should be able to pick up a pot of blackboard paint for under £5. Simply paint the back of the tank using either a roller or a brush (you may need to apply 2 coats. The black realy brings out the colours in fish, although I have to say my black angelfish is a bit tricky to spot!

I've painted all my tanks and just used emulsion paint with a gloss roller. It does the job perfectly, and comes off easy if you ever want a change.

Im just gonna paint it when I move the tank to get laminate down, DO i need to lay tank on side? IS it definately worth a go?

I havent regretted it, altho one day i'd like to fit one of those 3d backgrounds in the tank.

No need to turn it on its side. I just painted it sitting on the stand. Emulsion doesnt really drip, I just did a few thin coats.

I spray paint just about all my tanks flat black. (unless its a SW tank, then I use blue)

ive also spray painted. that way you wont get any paint brush marks etc. make sure if you use spray paint to do it in light layers so you dont get any runs. ive done a how to somewhere i will try and find it. :good:
