I have lava rock in my African Cichlid tank. I love the shape of it, but I've gotten annoyed by the redness of it. I find it looks very unnatural. I also don't want to waste the money that I've spent on it by just purchasing other rock. So I'd just like to make it as natural as possible and paint it some of the darker, browns and beiges to make it look good.

How would I go about doing this?
From my point of view, it's a really simple project.
-Take the rocks out the tank, only some at a time to leave hiding places.
-Dip the rocks in selected paint colour (they wouldn't all be one colour either. It would look too monotone)
-Let them dry
-Cover in something to keep them safe for aquarium use

(I know this is possible and I'm not crazy. I've seen others make caves of styrofoam and paint them and cover them in a layer of something:p)

personally I'd not do it, however if you want you will need
a two-part epoxy paint for potable water tanks
(NSF 61/USDA/ANSI/AWWA and FDA certified and
approved or your governments equivalent)
