I recently purchase some "Painted tetras" for my 15 gal Amazon tank. I now know that the colours are dyes but the LFS guy couldn't tell me what exact type of tetra they were. Can someone let me know.

Thanks.

They're injected and terrible

But they're simply Glass fish.

The dyes are a carcinogen and will eventually lead to the fish's death. Enjoy them while you have them though, they are interesting to watch, but none of those fish will see the 6 month mark.

The dyed tetras I've seen were usually White Skirt Tetras. Glass fish are also subjected to being dyed, along with a number of other fish.

You might want to do a search on dyed fish (there are a couple of threads on this forum about this subject as well). You've bought them now and you might as well give them the best home you can. But it might be good for you to read about the dyeing process and why most hobbiest frown on dyed fish and the keeping of dyed fish.

Didn't realize they were dyed when I purchased them. If I had, I would not have purchased them as I don't believe in the practice.
