is it possible? i want to make my pipes seem as if they're not there!

or is it possible to get black 16mm tubing that's rigid?

As long as it doesn't alter the parameters in your tank. But I'm not sure if there are such paints, well I'm sure there are, but it would be a hassle to look for them. Also, it won't really look camouflaged, and it'll still stick out. You could always look for tubing the color or your background. :)

i want black pipes/tubing to make it camoflagued against the background (also black)

i was kind of asking if there was any paint that doesnt' alter perimeters in a round about kind of way

You're looking for "potable" paint and the only of that type that I know of is available is two part epoxy paint like they use in homemade plywood aquariums. You're supposedly able to get it at any of your choice of large local hardware chains.

Don't ask me where (perhaps it was wetwebmedia) I saw an "expert" advise someone on using rust oleum as inside paint for backgrounds, etc. but I did see that.

Because of the article with that advice I decided to use rust oleum to paint the outside of the background of my tank where I did accidently get some on the intake tube of my Eheim 2217. That painted part has been submerged in the water for years with no problems, even with saltwater. I was tempted for a long time just to paint the whole intake tube black with the background as yes it WOULD blend in great....but never had the nerve to do it.

Why would you want to paint the inside when painting the outside is so much easier? I painted the outside of my tank black and I cant even see the glass anymore, just a black wall...

Edit: And I just used a plain old latex paint...

He said he wants to paint the filter tubes that go into the water, not the background which is already black.

Oh, I should probably read the post better huh

The tough part about that is going to be finding a paint that will adhere to the surface you're painting... Most of the plastics in use for the aquarium hobby are low energy plastics that are very hard to bond anything to (glue, paint, what have you). You might want to check into local miniature model and hobby shops...

yes and here are the specs of it
Two-part epoxy paint for potable water tanks (NSF 61/USDA/ANSI/AWWA and FDA certified and
approved or UK equivlent)

Take those specs to a paint suppliers (Wicks is proberbly the best bet) and ask them for it.

They sell a whole range of black plastic pipe (both ridgid and non ridgid) and connectors in various sizes from 4mm up to 25mm, at my local hardware store (in Australia). A lot of it is made for garden irrigation perposes but would work in a tank. If you cant find it maybe ask a plumber or gardener. Hope this helps.

cheers for everyone's help. i'm sure all this will he useful as soon as i get some time off to actually do somethin about it!

i`m off to the plumbers merchants this weekend i`ll have a browse for some pipeage for you sir
