Hey everybody, so I've been planning on getting a Pacman frog for a while now and I finally got him ^_^ He's about 2" right now, I have his terrarium set-up in my room right now. It's a 10gallon tank (good for a full sized pacman frog), I'm using bed-a-beast as the substrate and there's a large crock(bowl) in the middle of the tank, I'll be getting some plants for him tomorrow, I have a screen top and a light on the top of the tank, but I will be adding a under-tank heat mat tomorrow after I buy one from my work. Hopfully all goes well, and I'll get some pics up ASAP :D

Has anybody had ALOT of experience with these guys? I would appriciate some advice, I've read most of what I could find on the internet, so personal experience would be best for me.

Thanks much,

Ryan

As promised, Pics :)

Cool frog, I've always wanted a pyxie/african bullfrog (Larger carnivorous frog), they are fun litte frogs, do remember to dust the crickets or give it mice... Hope your not too squimish with feeding live mice ;*)

It will only be able to eat pinky/fuzzy mice.. Trying to feed anything larger then a pinky/fuzzy to a pacman is a bad idea.

Co-worker tried it.. the mouse bit the frog numerous times.

I know full grown's can usually take down adult mice, at 2 inches yes pinkies/fuzzies only. Better yet is to get him to take adult f/t when hes an adult.

My boss tried it with a full grown pacman we had at the store for over a year.. The mouse was biting the snot out of it.. It couldn't eat it.. It was actually pretty creepy to watch.

I dunno, all those youtube videos seem pretty compelling that they can? Of course I don't disagree its risky and potentially very harmful for the frog.

Umm... feeding wise I'm fine on... He's only about 2" right now so he gets a variety of live Large crickets, I'll be getting wax worms for him today, he'll also be getting 1 feeder guppy bi-weekly, and sorry to say vancover, but feeding pacman frogs LIVE feeder mice is a bad idea in general, this is because the frog is a predatory species that lies dorment until the prey gets close enogh, live mice can burrow in the substrate and bit him. Plus, he's too small to be eating pinkys right now.
When larger (4" or more) I may start giving him pinkys, but at this age I will not due to the risk of him chocking to death.

And it will not ONLY be able to eat live/frozen mice, there are many other options.

Well to be honest I'm not sure pacmans do great on the diet your proposing. I think they need a lot more nutrients than strictly crickets, you'll have to dust the crickets aswell. To be honest in no time you will need to reconsider your idea of not feeding live mice, at least live pinkies.. Pinkies don't really bite back just get eaten and pacmans will not always sit and wait for prey, in captivity I know I've seen a lot of them in videos get up chase it down and eat it. Or hey, set the pinkie in front of the frog so he gets it quicker? As an adult whole f/t mice will be just fine and I'm sure he'd have no problem eating them.

Sorry should have said that. The crickets and locusts will need dusting with supliments to keep the frogo healthy.

Well aware, I dust my crickets all the time. Also, if you look up information on feeding pacman frogs online you'll learn that crickets are an ideal source of food when young, so long as they've been dusted.

Very nice frog you have there, would frozen pinkies work for food as i was thinking of getting one but could feed live mice.

I don't know why you're saying sorry to say vancouver.. I'm the one that said mice will bite the frog.
