For the longest time I thought that my betta was a cambodian female. She looks like all the pics I have seen. But now "she" is showing some definite male behaviors and I'm beginning to think that I made a mistake and "she" is atually a short tailed "he". I've looked everywhere for information but what I really need is to see pics of a short finned and female together to try to figure out the subtle differences. For example, I do not see a white spot or tube underneath "her" and "her" top and bottom fins seem to be angled, but "she" also seems to have a very distinguishable rounded/fatter area vbetween her gills and the beginning of "her" bottom fin...mostly on the bottom. lease help me to figure this out!

ps- unfortunately dont have a dig. camera

I think you have either bought an infertile female or a male... because if they dont have that white spot its usauly a sure sign of a male.. or an infertile female

sometimes the white tube tkaes forever to try and spot..but usually females have a more defined tummy than a male...it's hard to describe, but female bettas should have a more slightly bloated/curved belly than plakat males.

yeah females do have a rounder bodie... btw how old is your female/male?

maybe this will help you a bit..its a pic of my red cambodian female..

females bodies generally are slimmer, and more "triangular" looking, there tummys are usually bigger..and males usually have a hunch more on their backs.

Thanks so much for the pics!!! Thats her! Other than the fact that her fins are a bit smoother on the edge and dont have the nice jig-jag type look thats the spitting image of my betta. Maybe I didn't understand what I was looking for...does the picture show a white spot or a tube? If it does is there a way you can direct me to it? I might have been lookign for the wrong thing!

Thank you so much.
